Samsung's AI-First Strategy: How the Tech Giant Plans to Democratize AI Across Southeast Asia

Samsung is making bold moves to bring artificial intelligence to every consumer in Southeast Asia and Oceania, regardless of their budget or technical expertise. In a recent interview, CU Kim, Samsung's regional CEO, revealed how the company is leveraging its decade-long AI experience to transform daily life across one of the world's most diverse regions.

Samsung's "AI for All" Approach Takes Hold

Unlike competitors rushing into AI, Samsung has been quietly building intelligent connectivity into devices for over a decade. This foundation now powers their ambitious "AI for All" vision, with impressive results already showing. According to Kim, 77% of Galaxy AI users in the region actively use Samsung's AI features across flagship, mid-range FE, and tablet devices.

The company's strategy extends beyond premium devices. Even affordable A Series smartphones now include AI capabilities like Circle to Search with Google and Best Face technology, which automatically selects the best expressions from motion photos.

Key Benefits for Southeast Asian Users

Samsung's regional AI strategy addresses specific challenges facing Southeast Asian consumers:

  • Language barriers solved: Translation features help navigate the region's incredible linguistic diversity
  • Network independence: On-device Galaxy AI operates without constant cloud connectivity, crucial for areas with varying internet infrastructure
  • Smart home integration: Home AI learns user habits through SmartThings platform to create personalized experiences

Youth Leading AI Adoption

The numbers are striking. Based on Samsung's recent survey, 9 out of 10 Southeast Asian youth already incorporate AI into daily tasks like learning, creative work, and community engagement. While 65% believe AI will create new job opportunities, they're also proactively developing AI skills for the changing job market.

For businesses, Samsung is rolling out SmartThings Pro to help companies create intelligent environments. The platform already supports hospitality, retail, and education sectors, including the Samsung Digital Lighthouse School program serving over 2,500 students in Indonesia.
