WTW Elevates Newfront Co-Founders to Lead Global AI Strategy Across 140 Countries

When a $27.1 billion global advisory firm decides to get serious about AI, it doesn't just hire a consultant. It restructures leadership around it.

WTW has appointed Spike Lipkin as Chief AI Officer and Gordon Wintrob as Head of AI Acceleration—both effective immediately, both reporting directly to CEO Carl Hess. The appointments follow WTW's acquisition of Newfront in January 2026.

Who They Are

Lipkin and Wintrob co-founded Newfront, an insurance and benefits broker known for building one of the most AI-native operations in the industry. Lipkin served as CEO; Wintrob as CTO. Together, they built a technology-first approach to broking that automated and personalized processes traditionally handled manually.

Now, WTW is betting that model can scale across operations in 140 countries.

Two Roles, One Strategy

WTW's dual-appointment structure is deliberate:

  • Lipkin (Chief AI Officer): Shapes long-term competitive positioning through AI—embedding it into strategy, operating model, and culture
  • Wintrob (Head of AI Acceleration): Drives enterprise-wide adoption of AI tools and helps employees integrate AI into daily workflows

The separation reflects a hard-won lesson in enterprise AI: strategy without adoption produces vision documents; adoption without strategy produces fragmented tools.

The Bigger Picture

WTW's move adds to a growing list of major institutions elevating AI leadership to the C-suite. For broking, risk advisory, and insurance, the implication is clear: AI-native firms like Newfront aren't just competing with incumbents—they're being absorbed and used to transform them from within.
