Microsoft Rethinks Copilot With Home, Code, and Autopilot: What It Means for Teams

Microsoft has unveiled a major overhaul of Copilot, consolidating its AI capabilities into a single app built around three distinct components: Home, Code, and Autopilot. The redesign signals a shift from Copilot as a chatbot to Copilot as a full-service AI work platform -- one meant to "connect the tools people rely on with the next generation of capabilities they'll need to build, customize and scale AI across work."

What Each Component Does

• Home is the central hub where Chat and Cowork converge. Users can review recent activity, pick up where they left off, and delegate tasks end-to-end -- from drafting an RFP response to producing a financial close package. Microsoft says users will soon be able to simply state what they need and Copilot will route the work automatically to Chat, Cowork, or Code.
• Code is built for developers and is powered by the same underlying technology as GitHub Copilot. It allows anyone to build custom solutions and run them securely.
• Autopilot -- an evolution of Microsoft's earlier "Scout" feature -- is a persistent, cloud-hosted AI agent. Assign it a name, role, and goal, and it manages ongoing tasks like supplier reviews, meeting prep, and stakeholder follow-up without waiting to be prompted. It keeps working even when users are offline.

Home and Code will begin rolling out in Microsoft's Frontier program in the coming weeks. Autopilot is moving into private preview at the end of the month.

For teams already using Microsoft 365, this consolidation could significantly change how AI is integrated into daily workflows -- moving from ad-hoc chat interactions toward structured, delegated work.
