Freshfields Deploys Claude Across 33 Global Offices in Major Legal AI Push

One of the world's top law firms is making a significant bet on AI-native workflows — and the numbers are striking.
Legal Cheek reports that Magic Circle firm Freshfields has entered a multi-year partnership with Anthropic to build specialist legal AI tools and roll out Claude across all 33 of its global offices, covering 5,700 employees. Within the first six weeks of deployment, Claude usage had already increased by 500%.
What the Partnership Covers
The deal focuses on four core legal workflows:
- Legal and market research
- Contract review
- Document drafting
- Due diligence
Beyond the immediate toolset, the partnership includes development of new AI workflows for legal service delivery and a focus on legal-oriented agentic tools.
Why This Matters Beyond Law
This partnership is a signal for any professional services firm or knowledge-intensive business watching from the sidelines. Firms that embed AI deeply into workflows — not just access it via a chat interface — are seeing exponential adoption curves and fundamentally different productivity baselines.
Freshfields' Chief Innovation Officer Gil Perez framed it clearly: "For us, innovation is about practical impact — helping our teams deliver the very best outcomes for clients."
The firm simultaneously announced paralegal role reductions at its Manchester support hub, citing technology investment as a driver. Anthropic, currently valued at £280 billion following a $22 billion funding round in February 2026, supplies the underlying models for several major legal AI platforms including Harvey and Legora.
