NVIDIA's $1B Investment and Brookfield's $9B Back a 200MW Sovereign AI Factory in South Korea
In one of the largest AI infrastructure commitments announced this year, NAVER, NVIDIA, and Brookfield are tripling the capacity of South Korea's national AI factory, with a combined capital deployment that could reach $10 billion and a long-term target of 1 gigawatt of sovereign compute.
What's Being Built
The GAK Sejong hyperscale data centre in Sejong, South Korea, initially planned at 55 megawatts, will expand to 200 megawatts by 2028. The project was unveiled during Korean President Jae Myung Lee's AI Summit visit to San Francisco. Each partner brings a distinct capability:
- NVIDIA is making a planned direct $1 billion strategic investment into NAVER Corp and contributing its DSX AI factory platform, including Blackwell and Vera Rubin hardware.
- Brookfield has entered a non-binding term sheet to fund up to $9 billion, drawing on its roughly $100 billion in AI infrastructure assets.
- NAVER provides full-stack operating expertise as an NVIDIA Cloud Partner and will operate the facility.
Beyond Infrastructure: Agentic AI and Enterprise Platforms
The collaboration extends well beyond the physical data centre. NAVER is advancing its HyperCLOVA X model family and plans to launch an enterprise AI agent platform in South Korea in the second half of 2026 using NVIDIA's Agent Toolkit and NemoClaw blueprints. The company is also developing a digital Seoul World Model built on NVIDIA Cosmos world foundation models using urban street-view and spatial data.
Key Takeaways
- Sovereign AI is becoming a national security priority — this deal reframes compute capacity as strategic infrastructure comparable to energy grids.
- Agentic workflows are the enterprise delivery mechanism — NAVER's H2 2026 agent platform launch shows infrastructure and application layers moving in lockstep.
- $10B+ capital at this scale sets a new bar — Brookfield's $9B term sheet alongside NVIDIA's $1B signals that AI infrastructure investment is entering capital markets territory.
Jensen Huang said: "AI factories are the infrastructure nations need to compete and innovate in the intelligence era. This is how nations and companies are building their futures in the age of AI."
