Pentagon Opens GenAI.mil to All 3 Million Personnel: ChatGPT and Grok Now Available

The U.S. Department of Defense has expanded its secure generative AI portal, GenAI.mil, adding OpenAI's ChatGPT Mil and xAI's Grok for Government to its lineup. The move makes three AI tools available to all 3 million military and civilian personnel. More than 1.7 million users have already registered on the platform since its launch with Google's Gemini.

The two new tools serve distinct purposes. ChatGPT Mil handles document-centric, unclassified work including administration, logistics, planning, and policy. Grok for Government is designed for operational missions and runs on the Starshield satellite network, a SpaceX-built secure communications system.
