How Trimble's AI Platform Could Transform Construction Productivity
Trimble just unveiled its game-changing approach to artificial intelligence that could finally solve construction's decades-old productivity problem. At Trimble Dimensions, the company revealed its agentic AI platform designed to act as a "force multiplier" for engineering and construction workflows.
What Makes Trimble's AI Different
Unlike generic AI models, Trimble's agentic AI platform focuses on task-specific solutions. The platform serves as a foundation of core services, security frameworks, and tools that enable secure, scalable AI systems tailored to real construction challenges.
Mark Schwartz, senior vice president of AECO software at Trimble, calls it the "engine" that helps extract maximum value from both data and existing solutions. The company is currently piloting Trimble Agent Studio with select customers.
Key AI Applications Already in Use
Design and Modeling: Users can generate 3D objects by simply describing what they want to model, eliminating manual design steps.
Field Operations: Voice memos from job sites automatically convert to documents, reducing office time for field crews.
Workflow Efficiency: Streamlined data access and automated asset maintenance and permitting processes.
Breaking Down Data Silos
CEO Rob Painter emphasized that these AI advances build on Trimble's "Connect and Scale" strategy. The goal is creating an industry ecosystem that breaks down data silos, enabling smarter decisions and faster collaboration. This technology aims to "bend the curve of construction productivity that has been flat since the 1970s."
What's Available Now
Several AI features are already accessible through Trimble Labs, an early-access program for testing new capabilities. Current offerings include AI Render in Trimble SketchUp and the Tekla Structures User Assistant. Additional tools like the Viewpoint Finance Assistant and Accubid Assistant will launch in early 2026.
The platform is designed to be open and extensible, allowing partners and customers to create their own AI agents across Trimble's construction solutions.
