Moody's Launches Open-Standard AI Skills for Financial Workflows via Microsoft 365 Copilot
Moody’s Corporation has taken a significant step in AI distribution strategy, releasing a library of platform-agnostic AI skills that transform complex analytical frameworks into executable natural language prompts. Launching on Microsoft 365 Copilot—with planned expansion to other platforms—the move positions Moody’s as one of the first financial data providers to deliver a full skills library on an open standard.
Rather than requiring users to switch between software interfaces, the skills let financial professionals execute multi-step analytical workflows through single requests. The initial release covers five high-value workflows:
- Earnings Call Summary: extracts revenue trends, pricing dynamics, consumer health, and tariff exposure from transcripts
- Peer Analysis: compares leverage, profitability, ESG, and credit quality across companies
- Public Information Book: compiles financial data, governance structures, competitive positioning, and risk profiles
- Rating Pitch: structured presentations with sector context, rating history, and peer comparisons
- Sector Analysis: merges proprietary research with market intelligence for sector-level assessments
How It Works
Each skill uses Model Context Protocol (MCP)—an open standard adopted by Anthropic, OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon—to connect AI agents directly to Moody’s proprietary ratings, research, and risk data. Skills are built in the SKILL.md format, making each one reusable across any compatible AI platform without redevelopment.
Cristina Pieretti, Head of Digital Content and Innovation at Moody’s, said: “Moody’s is among the first financial data providers to deliver a full library of skills on an open standard and today’s launch is just the beginning.”
Key Takeaways
- Moody’s is embedding its analytical expertise as portable AI skills using open standards, allowing financial professionals to access proprietary intelligence wherever they already work.
- The five initial skills cover earnings analysis, peer benchmarking, due diligence, and sector assessment—all previously manual and time-intensive workflows.
- Future skills are planned for credit analysis, lead generation, third-party due diligence, and insurance underwriting, expanding Moody’s addressable market beyond traditional software buyers.
